How we can update/Upgrade the latest version of Word Press in Website?

Now a days many of the people are creating their website on Wordpress, which is a very easy to learn and maintain, but very frequently we got the new version of Wordpress on the WORPRESS.ORG website and updation of the new version become a difficult task. So in this blog, I am going to resolve all the problems regarding the updation of Wordpress new version in you already hosted website. Suppose you had made a website in wordpress and as we know there is continuous update in wordPress Versions so to implement those versions we also have to update our Wordpress version in already launched website.

There is two methods for updation:-

1.      Automatically update

2.      Manual update

Before updation of new version of WordPress , first of all we have to take the backup of that website, it could be a database backup or pages backup.  For the steps to take  backup of website, Please follow

1.      Automatically Update :- When we enter in the dashboard of our website, it automatically show an options for the updation on the top of the DASHBOARD of website. You have to click on the link to update automatically.

2.      Manual Update :- It is a three step process

2.1.  Backup of Website :- After the completion of taking backup, you can follow the Wordpress Version Update. Suppose your are running Wordpress 4.3 version and you want to upgrade to new version of wordpress.

2.2.  Download the new Version of Wordpress :-  To get the new version of wordpress, follow the steps :-

a.       Type Wordpress.org in your URL, and search

b.      It will open an Official Website page of WordPress.

c.       On the top right corner of the Home page, you will find a button “Download Wordpress” .

d.      Now click on this Button to get the latest version of wordpress.

e.       In the following figure, you can see, the latest version of WordPress as shown in figure “DownLoad Wordpress 4.8”.

f.       Now click on this Button. It will download a .zip file having the latest version of WordPress.

2.3.  Updation of  new Version of Wordpress in the cpanel of the website:-  As we know, when we host our website in a domain, we got a cpanel from the hosting provider to maintain and manage our website. So now you have to update this version of WordPress in the Cpanel. This is a long Process, so follow me with the following steps.

2.3.1.      Type your websitename/cpanel in the url of your browser. For example :-

Abc.com/cpanel

2.3.2.      It will open a page having the username and password to enter the CPANEL of your website. If you know the correct username and password then it will divert you to on a CMS(Content Management System) where you will got all the options which you can apply in your website. As this blog is especially for the updation of the current version of the WORDPRESS used in our website, so I will concentrate only on it. There is many sections in the CPanel for performing and managing different tasks. See the figure:-

2.3.3.      In the above figure there is a File Manager, for the updation of WordPress version we need this file manage option. It works like our window explorer in our PC harddisk. Actually this is our website explorer. So now click on it and you will get a dialog box named as File Manager Directory Selection. Check the selection which should be Web Root (public_html/www) and click on GO.

Dear learner, it may possible there would be some changes in your CPANEL because it may different for different web hosting providers. So if it is different please find the file manager in your CPANEL options and do the following steps:-

2.3.4.      Now we will get the directory where we have to install new  version of wordpress. The below figure shows the directory structure. Select the Upload option and select your wordpress downloaded .ZIP file from choose file option. It will start uploading your wordpress software in the directory. This uploading the shown in the bottom right corner of the screen, when it shows 100% complete then go back to the public_home directory. Now click on re-Load button and you will find a .ZIP file the folder for example (wordpress-4.8.zip file) , select this file and click on extract option shown in the below figure and it will open a dialogue box with extract file button click on that button and extract all files.

2.3.5.      All the extracted file will store in the wordpress folder so now open wordpress folder and select all the files bus using select all check box. And now click on the move file option, select the folder public-home and click on move file button. All the files will move in the public-home folder and the wordpress folder will become empty. Click on one level up option to go in the previous main directory and you can delete the wordpress folder as well as the .ZIP file of the wordpress software. And click on reload to refresh all the changes.
